En partant de Violay, après avoir franchi le col de la Croix Cazard, la montée progressive conduit au pied de la Tour Matagrin, point culminant des Monts du Lyonnais. Faites une halte pour grimper au sommet et apprécier la magnifique vue à 360°. Une grande partie du circuit emprunte alors le GR7 sur un terrain plutôt plat jusqu’à la Croix de Signy. Là, le circuit est commun au A1 jusqu’au lieu-dit Chez Polon. A partir de ce point, le retour oscille entre crêts et vallons. Puis à l’étang de Fontbonne, une longue côte permet de rejoindre le point de départ.
